Sofia Geld is a Brazilian-American producer interested in telling personal stories with the power to drive systemic change. She is the co-founder of Uvaia Filmes, a São Paulo x New York based production company developing a diverse slate of narrative and documentary films. Most recently Sofia produced the short film Minha Mãe é uma Vaca (dir. Moara Passoni), which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival 2024 to critical acclaim. She is currently producing her debut fiction feature, Cost of Living, also directed by Moara Passoni. Previously, Sofia produced the feature documentary BEBA (TiFF 2021, Berlinale 2022, Tribeca 2022), acquired by NEON, Hulu, and Disney+. She has produced for celebrated directors Chai Vasarhelyi, Petra Costa, and Kristi Jacobson on projects for Netflix and The New York Times Op-Docs. Earlier in her career, she worked as an impact producer at Skylight Pictures on the feature films Rebel Citizen and Disruption, and directed the monthly #RESIST human-rights screening series in partnership with UnionDocs, Skylight, WITNESS, and Remezcla. Sofia’s work is supported by Berlinale Talents, The Gotham, Chicken & Egg Pictures, NYSCA, Kickstarter, and Women Make Movies, among others. She is a member of the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective, a UnionDocs Alumna, and a founding member of the Brazilian Filmmakers Collective.
